Brighton Marine Partners with Soldier On and Fresh Start Furniture Bank to Support Local Veteran
Boston Veteran Receives Full Apartment Furniture Set
Brighton Marine recently partnered with Soldier On and Fresh Start Furniture Bank to provide a Veteran and single mother with furniture for her apartment. Ashley, a Navy Veteran, and her young son received enough furniture to fill their apartment in Brookline.
Ashley served active duty for six years and inactive duty for two years before departing the military in 2000. She recently moved to Boston from Nashville, TN with her son after a divorce. Struggling with the move and acclimating to her new surroundings, Ashley found Brighton Marine’s services and reached out for help.
“When I first got here, I was living in a hotel with very little money. I had no help and no friends; Brighton Marine really came through for me. They put me in touch with the right people,” said Ashley.
Ashley contacted Brighton Marine in August of 2020 and kept in touch as she moved into her new apartment. With no furniture and no way to move the furniture herself, Ashley found herself reaching out to the supportive staff at Brighton Marine for help.
“I contacted Brighton Marine on a Thursday asking if there was anything they could do to help. By Tuesday, Brighton Marine and Soldier On were moving furniture into my new place. This was a true blessing.”
Ashley shared that after leaving the Navy, she struggled with her civilian transition and lived with undiagnosed PTSD for years. She only wishes she had found resources like Brighton Marine sooner to receive the help she needed to cope with her civilian transition, mental health, and substance abuse.
“Veteran outreach organizations give you a sense of calm. As a Veteran, you try to be tough and handle things on your own, but knowing Brighton Marine is there to lighten the load helps,” said Ashley. “These organizations can be the one factor that can help Veterans from going off the deep end and becoming a statistic. I would recommend Brighton Marine to anyone.”
We’re proud to have supported Ashley in her adjustment to Boston, and we will continue to support her in any way we can! If you are a Veteran in the Greater Boston area needing assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Contact us here.
